A Detailed Look At The Ghostbusters Car: The “ecto-1” Ectomobile

He has a vicious rivalry with Slimer, but has ended up working with the ghost, and volunteered to save him in “Slimer’s Sacrifice”. He also has an on Ghosbusters Auto mieten the surface rivalry with Garrett with the two often mocking each other and attempting to one up the other. In spite of this as the series goes on the two seem to have the closest thing to a friendship even though Garrett’s enthusiastic personality completely contrasts Eduardo’s cynical attitude. Eduardo has also exhibited bouts of jealousy whenever Kylie seemingly flirts with other men and in “Till Death Do Us Start” he showed signs of sheepish nervousness when asked if he and Kylie were together.

Parked right inside the entrance was ECTO-2, which looks like a 1970’s Japanese dual-sport motorcycle carrying a crate full of groceries from a junkyard. Apparently Chris Hemsworth will ride it in the movie, but the friendly women working in the office couldn’t tell me anything else about it. “You can’t have Ghostbusters without Slimer,” director Feig told us. Ivan Reitman, who directed the original movie, is a producer for the new one and said he never would have imagined Slimer (or the movie in general) becoming a cultural icon.

The interior was modified to allow easy access to the team’s equipment (Proton Packs, ghost traps, etc.) via the rear door. In the script for Ghostbusters, Slimer is never called by any name. He is described by Dr. Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd) as an “Ugly Little Spud,” just before he slimes Dr. Peter Venkman (Bill Murray).

Just over 2000 Cadillac chassis were built for the entire market in 1959, and those that were sent to Miller-Meteor were divided into three styles, with the Futura getting those iconic curved rear windows. The Duplex version is a further subdivision, indicating a dual-purpose hearse/ambulance, as would likely be useful in a small town. With the bullet taillights and quad foglights being a one-year-only Cadillac feature, and many of these cars worked to death, finding one to build a replica from is hard. Estimates of how many Futura Duplexes were built ranges from a few hundred to as little as twenty-five. The black-primered car that Stantz brings back to their headquarters was a rental.

We’re dedicated to bringing unique, feature-packed designs to life, making them accessible to builders everywhere. Activision developed a version of the game for the Atari 2600 which was published in 1989. British company Salu released the game in Europe in 1992, after Atari had already ended support for the 2600. I think this new movie is going to have a really hard time hitting the original’s “iconic” status, but it still looks like a lot of fun.

In the Hasbro toy line, Fright Features, he is depicted as throwing up ectoplasm, while donning a meaner look. The Hell’s Kitchen Sewer Dragon is a Class 5 entity that was rampaging above New York City and being pursued by the Spengler family-assembled Ghostbusters. Forty-three years later, they manifest as Class 4 Noncorporeal Elemental Spirits when Wexler was trying the Ghostbusters in court, unintentionally scaring him so much he rescinded the court judgment on the Ghostbusters practicing their craft. Nunzio also carries the trial’s prosecutor to the hall; the prosecutor survived but was traumatized by her ordeal. Vigo’s full name is a combination of the stage name of Norbert Grupe (aka Wilhelm von Homburg), who played Vigo, and William and Henry Deutschendorf, the twins that played the baby Oscar.

History

This confrontation leads to Peck getting official inspection orders and eventually having the Containment Unit shut off. Peck again confronts the Ghostbusters and orders them arrested, refusing to take responsibility and blaming them for the explosion at the firehouse. This provokes Egon Spengler’s furious attempt to assault Peck, and Venkman and Ray Stantz display contempt for Peck’s harassment. Quite frankly, this thing is enormous, even bigger in person than you’d expect.

Being incomplete they were intended to be bodied and assembled by third party coachbuilders, with one such coachbuilder being Miller-Meteor, the guys that built the ambulance/hearse combination end-loader that would later become Ecto-1. Seeing as All Hallow’s Eve is approaching we thought we’d take a look at one of the most famous movie cars to ever appear on spooky celluloid. A version of the game was released in Europe and Japan for the NES and Game Boy, titled New Ghostbusters II, developed by HAL Laboratory. It is more of a straightforward action game than the Activision game. The Game Boy version was released in America without the New label. Notable for allowing players to choose from all five ghostbusters from the end of the film; Peter, Ray, Egon, Winston, and Louis Tully.

The fact that it’s an estate car (and you know how much we adore a wagon), not to mention cooler than a polar bear’s toenails, further solidifies its super star status. Let’s be honest, Ecto-1 is a character in itself and one that perfectly encapsulates the mood and humour of the movie. The Mindel’s Ecto-1, which includes Brandon’s own customized proton pack and Ghostbuster get-up, is based on a Superior ambulance rather than a Miller-Meteor, as was the original. It was also built as a hearse rather than an ambulance, with a higher floor, but during its conversion into Ecto-1, it turned out that space for the rear jumpseat didn’t require much reworking.

The “Ecto-1” is the beloved ride of the original Ghostbusters lineup in the 1984 and 1989 films. It’s a 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor in ambulance spec, complete with a huge rear compartment for patients. Of course, the Ghostbusters used the Miller-Meteor’s patient compartment to carry ghost-fighting gear like the gang’s proton packs. This Futura Duplex was indeed as beastly as it appears on screen. At almost 21 feet long and seven feet wide,  it was built from solid steel and had a stock curb weight between 7,000 and 7,300 pounds. And that’s before Dane– the man who whipped up the designs for the Ecto-1 among other gadgets like the ghost traps, particle thrower, and proton packs — tacked on all the things that turned it into a ghost-fighting-mobile.
